Are you geared up for the change brewing in the application economy?
Here are three key insights from IT administrators who stopped by CA Technologies coffee corner at SpiceWorld Austin.
As you read this blog post, there’s a good chance you’re sipping on a cuppa Joe. Congratulations, you’re celebrating International Coffee Day whether you know it or not.
First celebrated in Japan in 1983, International Coffee Day is observed by a handful of countries on September 29, including the US, Canada and England. So you ask, “what does this have to do with IT?”
Or at least that’s what hundreds of IT professionals at SpiceWorld Austin who stopped by CA Technologies Austin’s famous Joe’s Coffee corner wanted to talk to me about – after they had finished Tweeting ‘selfies’ with the CA Nimsoft Monitor Snap Bot, of course.
Out of these conversations, three of the biggest changes impacting the way they work and deliver services to end users and customers are:
Cloud based application and services are being adopted at a rapid pace
Cloud and the application economy are not trends anymore – they are here. Even attendees from small to mid-sized companies mentioned either developing or adopting cloud-based applications for their end users and external customers.
What this means for IT operations team is that the legacy tools they have for monitoring and managing their infrastructures need to be able to support the newer and legacy applications.
IT wants to focus on customer experience
In the past when I have talked to IT administrators, they would talk about keeping systems up. But the conversations at SpiceWorld were more centered around the growing need to focus on improving the experiences of their customers and internal users.
They understood the importance of being more proactive and ensuring an optimal customer experience in fast-growing companies and industries. Several customers of ours have reported similar benefits by adopting our unified IT monitoring software.
User transparency is gaining importance
Many IT administrators mentioned improving relationships with their end users and development groups as a top priority.
Prominent blogger Matt Simmons had a session on a similar topic, which was very well attended. IT administrators can learn a lot from the managed service providers in this aspect by adopting the tools and processes that they use.
Are you an IT administrator? Can you relate to these issues? Are your tools and processes geared for change?
Maybe another cup of coffee will help get you going.
