What not to miss at this year’s performance and capacity conference

We’ve compiled a top 10 list of "don’t miss" things you need to attend if you want to get the most out of the conference and, of course, the city of Atlanta.

Autumn in the south is full of vibrant colors, college football and capacity planners…who knew? This year the Computer Measurement Group is celebrating its 40th year with hosting the Performance and Capacity 2014 international conference from November 3 to 6 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.

With 85 speakers and breakout sessions, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn the latest innovative strategies in performance and capacity planning. We thought we would list 10 “don’t miss” things to do to get the most of the conference as well as the city of Atlanta.

1. Don’t miss the keynote: “The High Performance Computing Story at Georgia Tech”

Everyone loves a good keynote and success story. Georgia Institute of Technology associate vice provost for research and technology and CTO Ron Hutchins will highlight the High Performance Computing (HPC) business and information technology organization at Georgia Tech as well as its unique virtualization model that maximizes its computing environments.

2. Attend a technical workshop

Looking for a deeper dive into capacity planning? The Business Service Profiling and Advanced Analytics workshop kicks off Monday morning at 8 a.m. in Salon 4. Industry experts from CA Technologies Richard Gimarc and Adrian Johnson will introduce, illustrate and leverage the concept of Business Service Profiling to overcome the common challenges of developing data center capacity plans, monitor application performance and analyzing the usage and capacity of critical business services.

3. Visit the College Football Hall of Fame

Are you a football fan? Since the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be out of town taking on NC State Wolfpack that weekend, why not check out the College Football Hall Of Fame. Get completely immersed in the engaging and interactive exhibits that take you through the stories and accomplishments of record-breaking players throughout college football history.

Don’t forget to stop by Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Skill Zone where they have a 45-yard replica football field setup to test your skills at kicking field goals, throwing for winning touchdowns and an agility and flexibility obstacle course.

4. Register for the “Ask The Experts” private dinner

Join Industry Experts Richard Gimarc and Adrian Johnson from CA Technologies on Wednesday, November 5 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. for a capacity management private party. Enjoy dinner and drinks on us at ECCO in midtown Atlanta and hear one-on-one expert advice on capacity analysis and performance engineering. Stop by The CA Technologies booth to add your name on this exclusive guest list.

5. Attend the speaking sessions

With four days of back-to-back sessions to choose from, you may find it hard to decide which ones are the best for you. If you are interested in building informative and intelligent business service capacity dashboards, then we suggest Adrian Johnson’s, “As If By Magic…The Dashboard Appeared – Building Useful Business Service Capacity Reports” session on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Conference Room E.

6. Networking events

Every night at 8 p.m. are networking sessions in the hotel lobby bar where you can engage with your fellow professionals to share your experiences and build lasting industry relationships.

7. Visit the CA Technologies booth and win

Stop by the CA Technologies booth and ask us how to win a Kindle Fire HD!

8. Don’t miss the featured speaker sessions

More than a dozen featured speakers will be at CMG 2014 this year educating us on a variety of performance and capacity planning topics. Hear from industry experts like Amy Spellman of The 451 Group as she presents her session on, “Stack Metrics: A Taxonomy of Metrics Supporting the Capacity Planning Stack” along with Richard Gimarc and Adrian Johnson.

9. Visit the Georgia Aquarium

As the world’s most magical aquarium, the Georgia Aquarium features more animals than any other aquarium in over 10 million gallons of water. Through a path of more than 60 exhibits, the Aquarium tells a global water story, with features modeled after the greatest zoos and aquariums in the world. Each majestic exhibit is designed to inspire, entertain and educate.

10. Before you arrive watch the replay of the CMG webinar: A Revolutionary Approach to Capacity Planning

If you missed the recent Computer Measurement Group webinar, “A Revolutionary Approach to Capacity Planning” – then you missed a lot. Not only was the webcast hosted twice due to the overwhelming attendance for the first one but it was full of thought leadership discussions on why today’s capacity planning practices need to change in order to keep up with tomorrow’s digital infrastructure.

We look forward to see you at the Performance and Capacity 2014 International Conference in Atlanta this November.
